School & Nursery Consultation

Specialist observation and practical recommendations for the setting where the difficulty appears.

Where difficulties show up mainly at nursery or school, support is most effective in that environment. A School and Nursery Consultation brings specialist developmental observation into the setting and produces recommendations staff can actually use.

For parents whose concerns centre on the school day, and for nurseries and schools seeking specialist input on a child's participation.

Reasons families ask about this

  • Your child manages at home but finds the school or nursery day much harder.
  • Staff would like specialist guidance on how to support a child's participation.
  • Difficulties appear in specific parts of the day — carpet time, PE, playtime, transitions.
  • A setting wants practical adjustments rather than a general recommendation.

How it works

  1. Agree scope and consent

We confirm what the setting and family want to understand, and obtain the necessary consents.

  2. Observation

Observation in the setting, during the parts of the day where difficulties appear.

  3. Discussion with staff

A meeting with the relevant staff to share what was observed and explore what is workable.

  4. Written recommendations

Practical strategies and environmental adjustments the setting can implement.

What it may include

  • Classroom or nursery observation
  • Discussion with teaching and support staff
  • Recommendations on the physical environment and seating
  • Strategies for transitions, movement breaks and regulation during the day
  • Adjustments to support participation in PE, play and fine motor tasks
  • A follow-up review of how the strategies are working

What you receive

  • Verbal feedback to staff and to parents
  • A written set of practical recommendations
  • Suggested environmental adjustments
  • An agreed review point

Indicative fee

From £250

Includes observation in the setting, a discussion with staff and written recommendations. Travel beyond South Kensington (London) and Shorne (Gravesend) may be added.

Fees are indicative. Your fee is always confirmed with you before anything is booked.

What this service does not provide

This is specialist developmental consultation. It is not an EHC needs assessment, an educational psychology assessment, or a statutory process, and it does not determine a child's entitlement to statutory support. It can, however, contribute developmental information to those processes.

Common questions

Who arranges it — the school or the parent?

Either. Both parties need to agree and consent before an observation takes place.

How long does an observation take?

Typically a half day, depending on which parts of the day are relevant.

Do you travel to settings?

Yes. In-person visits are available in London (South Kensington) and Gravesend (Shorne) and the surrounding areas. For settings further away, travel may be added to the fee, and some of the work can take place online.

What does it cost?

From £250. Includes observation in the setting, a discussion with staff and written recommendations. Travel beyond South Kensington (London) and Shorne (Gravesend) may be added. Fees are indicative. Your fee is always confirmed with you before anything is booked.
