Neurodevelopment Consultation

A conversation with a specialist to understand what you are noticing and what would help most.

A Neurodevelopment Consultation is a structured discussion about your child's development. It is the usual starting point for families who have noticed something and are not yet sure what it means or what kind of support might help.

For parents and carers who have a concern, a question, or a recommendation from a teacher or health professional, and who would like specialist guidance before deciding on next steps.

Reasons families ask about this

  • You have noticed something about your child's development but are unsure whether it needs attention.
  • Someone at nursery or school has raised a concern and you would like to understand it better.
  • You have been told to 'wait and see' and would like a specialist view in the meantime.
  • You are unsure whether an assessment, therapy or practical strategies would be the most useful next step.

How it works

  1. You get in touch

You describe what you are noticing, in your own words. There is no need to use clinical language or to know what is causing it.

  2. We agree a time

Consultations are available online or in person, and usually last around 60 minutes.

  3. We talk it through

We explore your child's development, everyday routines, strengths and the situations where things feel harder.

  4. You leave with a direction

We discuss what may be happening developmentally and agree a practical next step together.

What it may include

  • A discussion of your child's developmental history and current everyday participation
  • Exploration of the specific situations where difficulties appear
  • Explanation of the developmental processes that may be involved
  • Practical suggestions you can try at home
  • Guidance on whether further assessment or intervention would be useful
  • Signposting to another professional where that would serve your child better

What you receive

  • Verbal feedback during the session
  • A short written summary of what was discussed and suggested
  • A clear recommended next step
  • Where appropriate, a referral suggestion to another professional

What this service does not provide

A consultation is a professional discussion, not a formal assessment. It does not produce a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for medical or psychological assessment where that is needed. If your child's needs fall outside this practice's scope, we will say so and help you identify who would be better placed to help.

Common questions

Does my child need to attend?

Not usually. The first consultation is normally a conversation with parents or carers. If it would be helpful for your child to attend, we will discuss it with you beforehand.

How long does it take?

Around 60 minutes, online or in person.

Will I get a diagnosis?

No. A consultation helps you understand what may be happening developmentally and what would help. Diagnosis is a separate process carried out by the appropriate medical or psychological specialist, and we can advise on that route if it is relevant.

What does it cost?

From £95. A 60-minute consultation, online or in person, with a short written summary of suggested next steps. Fees are indicative. Your fee is always confirmed with you before anything is booked.
