Developmental Assessment

A structured look at how your child is developing across the areas that matter for everyday life.

A Developmental Assessment builds a rounded picture of your child's development — movement and coordination, body awareness, regulation, attention, play and everyday independence — and how these affect participation at home, at nursery or school and with friends.

For families who want a fuller understanding of their child's developmental profile, whether to guide support, to inform a conversation with school, or simply for reassurance.

Reasons families ask about this

  • Several different things feel harder for your child and you would like to understand how they connect.
  • You want to know your child's developmental strengths as well as the areas that need support.
  • School or nursery has asked for more information to help them support your child.
  • You would like a developmental check with practical recommendations, without necessarily starting therapy.

How it works

  1. Background gathering

We collect developmental history and, with your consent, observations from nursery or school.

  2. Assessment sessions

One or more sessions with your child, using structured activities and observation. Sessions are designed to feel like play.

  3. Analysis

Findings are considered together with what you and others have described about everyday life.

  4. Feedback and report

We meet to talk through the findings, and you receive a written report with practical recommendations.

What it may include

  • Standardised and observational assessment of motor skills and coordination
  • Assessment of body awareness, balance and spatial organisation
  • Observation of attention, regulation and organisation during activity
  • Consideration of play, social participation and everyday independence
  • Parent interview and, with consent, input from nursery or school
  • Discussion of your child's strengths and what supports them best

What you receive

  • A feedback session explaining the findings in plain language
  • A written developmental report
  • Practical recommendations for home
  • Recommendations that can be shared with nursery or school
  • A recommended plan for any further support

What this service does not provide

This is a developmental assessment, not a medical or diagnostic assessment. It does not diagnose conditions such as autism or ADHD. It can, however, contribute useful developmental information to a diagnostic process led by the appropriate specialist, and can identify when onward referral would be helpful.
